Mandeep Singh Brar (IAS) Takes Charge as Home Secretary Chandigarh

Mandeep Singh Brar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 2005 batch of the Haryana cadre, has been officially appointed as the new Home Secretary of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. This appointment follows the endorsement of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal for his inter-cadre deputation by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The position of Home Secretary has been vacant since June 2024.
Before this significant role, Brar served with distinction as the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh from 2018 to 2021, during which he was on a three-year deputation. His tenure in this position allowed him to gain in-depth knowledge and valuable experience in the administration of the Union Territory, making him particularly well-suited for his new role.
In his capacity as Deputy Commissioner, Brar was responsible for overseeing a wide range of administrative functions and implementing key policies, which provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the local governance and operational challenges within Chandigarh. His proven track record in administrative leadership and his familiarity with Chandigarh’s unique administrative landscape are expected to contribute significantly to his effectiveness as Home Secretary.
