The ceremony drew large attendance from the local community, including RWA Sector 27-D President Shikha Nijhawan, senior members, executive body of the RWA, and numerous local residents of sector 27.
The Welfare Association and residents expressed immense satisfaction and gratitude, applauding the Mayor for swiftly fulfilling her commitment to repair and upgrade the sector’s internal roads. Following the traditional coconut ceremony marking the auspicious start of construction, residents distributed sweets to celebrate the project launch.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla highlighted the MC’s dedicated approach to infrastructure maintenance.
“We are committed to fulfilling every promise we make to the residents of Chandigarh. The recarpeting of V6 roads in Sector 27-D has been successfully initiated today, and as you have been seeing, a comprehensive road overhaul has been taking place in every part of the city,” Mayor Babla stated.
The Mayor emphasized the strategic prioritization of road repair and recarpeting work across various categories, including V3, V4, V5, and V6 roads. She provided a detailed financial breakdown of the massive infrastructure push:
- V3 Roads Transferred to the Administration for repair, estimated at a cost of ₹24.21 Crores.
- V4, V5, and V6 Roads Recarpeting work to be executed by the Municipal Corporation, budgeted at an estimated cost of ₹40 Crores. This project is part of a larger plan by the MC to cover essential city transport links.
The Mayor further noted that despite significant financial constraints faced by the Municipal Corporation, the administration successfully secured ₹125 Crores from the Chandigarh Administration, out of which approximately ₹40 Crores is being utilized specifically for the roads overhaul by the MC.
“Despite the opposition’s theatrics aimed at opposing critical road repair and recarpeting, we have succeeded in overcoming these challenges and ensuring that development remains our number one priority. Our focus remains firmly on the city’s overall development, ensuring smooth and safe transit for all our residents,” Mayor Babla concluded.
The Municipal Corporation is dedicated to ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of these projects, which will significantly enhance urban mobility and citizen convenience across Chandigarh.
