Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla Efforts Bring ₹125 Crore Grant for MC Chandigarh

Chandigarh, August 27, 2025: Chandigarh has received a major financial boost with the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioning ₹125 crore to the Municipal Corporation. This grant, issued under Grant No. 53 – Chandigarh on 27th August 2025, will help the Corporation overcome its financial crunch and continue providing smooth civic services to residents.

This success comes as a result of the constant efforts and leadership of Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, who took up the matter with all concerned authorities and ensured the city’s appeal was strongly represented at the national level.

Mayor Babla expressed her heartfelt thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and UT Administrator & Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for their support. She also acknowledged the cooperation of BJP Chandigarh President Jatinder Malhotra, along with senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Finance Secretary, and MC Commissioner.

How the Grant Will Help

With this grant, the Municipal Corporation will now be able to:

• Clear pending dues and release staff salaries on time.
• Maintain essential services like sanitation, water supply, waste management, and street lighting without disruption.
• Restart stalled road works and development projects, including carpeting of main city roads (V4, V5, and V6).
• Strengthen ongoing civic and infrastructure improvement initiatives.

Speaking on the development, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said:
“This grant is a big relief for the Municipal Corporation and for the people of Chandigarh. It will help us clear dues, resume stalled projects, and deliver better services to every citizen. I am grateful to the Central Government and all officials who supported us in this effort.”
