Mayor starts ‘Chipkar’ campaign as part of world bicycle day at MCC worker’s stores
Municipal Corporation & Smart City,partner with NGO Patiala Foundation to promote road safety in Chandigarh
The Voice of Chandigarh News: With the objective of making cycling safer, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and Smart City, along with partner NGO Patiala Foundation, started ‘Chipkar’ campaign at the MCC worker’s stores in the city.
Anup Gupta, city Mayor started the camp formally by pasting reflective stickers on bicycles of MCC labourers at Horticulture store, Sector 33, in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, CEO of Patiala Foundation, Mrs. Anju Katyal, area councilor, Mrs. Prem Lata, councilor, other senior officers of MCC and prominent persons of the area.
Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh,said that as part of AMRIT UTSAV and World Bicycle Day celebrations, ‘Chipkar’ campaign under the banner of ‘Bicycle Safety’ has organized by the MCC in collaboration with Chandigarh Smart City Limited and Patiala Foundation. He said that similar camps were also organized at other stores of MCC where employees and labourers come with their bicycles.
He said that these type of camps help the real heros of city who cycle to work daily and required safety measures. He lauded the efforts of Patiala Foundation for continuously working towards the safety of cyclists since 2017 and organizing such camps under ‘Chipkar’ campaign. He said that these reflective stickers are very useful for the cyclists who commute from work in the dark, as the stickers make the cycle visible to motor vehicles and prevent road accidents and fatalities. He appreciated the proposal of the Foundation to start cycle clinic in the worker’s stores for minor repair of their bicycles.
While addressing the MCC employees, Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, CEO Patiala Foundation said that till date , the Patiala Foundation has organized around 87 ‘Chipkar’ Camps covering more than 27000 cycles at 16 locations throughout country and continuously organizing such camps for the safety of cyclists. He said that to expand the bicycle safety campaign in other cities, in which their volunteers help them in conducting the ‘Chipkar’ Camps at their respective locations in various parts of the country.
The Mayor, Commissioner and others with employees of MCC pledged for road safety and protect the environment. Volunteers from Chandigarh Police also participated in the camp.
