MC Chandigarh signs MoU with Door-to-Door Waste Collectors for commercial areas

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has signed MoU with Door-to-Door Waste Collectors for commercial areas of Chandigarh here today.
The programme was graced by Saurabh Joshi, Mayor, as Chief Guest, in the presence of Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Dr. Himanshu Gupta, Joint Commissioner and senior officers of the Corporation.
Through the Office of the Medical Officer of Health, the Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Door-to-Door Waste Collectors engaged in commercial areas of the city, including Sonia, Mukesh, Parmod, Bheem, Rohit, Paras, Mahinder, Sanjiv, Kavita, and Sahil.

The initiative formalizes their engagement and strengthens the waste management system under the Swachh Bharat Mission by clearly defining responsibilities related to scientific waste collection, mandatory segregation at source, and adherence to hygiene standards.
A focused awareness session was conducted highlighting the importance of segregating waste into Wet, Dry, and Domestic Hazardous categories, safe handling of municipal solid waste, and maintaining sanitation protocols. Swachhata Kits comprising masks, gloves, and essential cleaning tools were distributed to ensure the safety and welfare of sanitation workers.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor emphasized that segregation at source is essential for effective waste processing and appealed to commercial establishments and citizens to strictly comply with prescribed norms.
The Commissioner reiterated that active citizen participation and responsible waste management practices are crucial to achieving a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Chandigarh.
