Meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) held

A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) was held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh U.T. Chandigarh to discuss various road safety related issues. The meeting was attended by the SSP/Traffic & Security, representatives of UT Engineering Department, Municipal Corporation/Chandigarh, Architect Department, Urban Town Planning Department/UT, Executive Engineer of MoRTH & RO-Chandigarh, STA/Chandigarh, all DSsP/Traffic and Experts of Chandigarh Road Safety Society (CRSS) among others. The action taken on the agenda points of the last meeting held was presented to the Committee and fresh agenda items for the meeting were discussed.
The focus remained on rectifying the black spots/accident prone areas through intervention such as construction of table-tops, installation of cautionary traffic signages etc. as well as improving the overall visibility on roads for the safety of road users and to prevent road fatalities.
Some of the key decisions taken were Improvement of existing Mid-Block pedestrian crossing for the safety of the pedestrians across the city, earmarking of Pick and Drop Points for Auto Rickshaws on Madhya Marg as a pilot basis, Provision of extreme Left lane for buses/trucks/taxis/commercial vehicles on the city roads, physical segregation of cycle tracks marked on main carriageway roads where public footfall and volume of Traffic is higher, Provision of Lane with Arrow Marking around roundabouts and Arrow Markings on main carriageways before the Stop Lines/Pedestrian Crossings. UT Engineering Department has intimated that they have constructed table- tops at three black spots locations whereas the work is in progress on the remaining locations. Further, the work regarding physical segregation of cycle tracks from Hira Singh Chowk towards Lake turn on Vigyan path and from Lake turn upto Gurudwara Gursagar Sahib turn on Uttar Marg has been completed by affixing spring post.
The concerned departments have been asked to implement the decisions taken within stipulated time period on priority basis for the safely of the road users.
