Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh visits Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre; Reviews Facilities and Interacts with Beneficiaries

The Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh visited the Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre at Sector-18, Chandigarh to review the functioning of the facility and to assess the quality of services being provided to individuals undergoing treatment and rehabilitation. This visit to De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre was conducted as part of awareness programmes and related activities being conducted from 5th to 12th January, 2026 under the Scheme of National Legal Services Authority (DAWN-Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation – for a drug – free India) Scheme, 2025. The Member Secretary explained that National Youth Day (Vivekananda Jayanti) is observed on 12th January and is dedicated to inspiring young people and reinforcing their role in shaping a healthy and resilient society and in this backdrop National Legal Services Authority has directed the State Legal Services Authorities to organize awareness programmes under the Scheme from 5th January to 12th January, 2026.
During the visit, the Member Secretary inspected various sections of the centre. Detailed interactions were held with the medical officers, counselors and the support staff to understand the treatment protocols, counseling methods, and rehabilitation strategies being adopted for the beneficiaries.
The Member Secretary also interacted with inmates of the centre and listened to their experiences, challenges, and progress in the recovery process.
While addressing the staff, the Member Secretary highlighted the critical role of de-addiction centres in addressing substance abuse, which remains a significant social and public health concern. Emphasis was laid on adopting a holistic approach combining medical treatment, psychological counseling, skill development, and post-rehabilitation follow-up to ensure long-term recovery and social reintegration of the beneficiaries.
The Member Secretary expressed satisfaction over the overall functioning of the centre and appreciated the dedication and commitment of the staff in providing compassionate care and support. The Member Secretary assured full support from the State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh for providing legal aid to the individuals undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the de-addiction centre.
Such visits, the Member Secretary noted, are essential to ensure quality service delivery and to reinforce the collective commitment towards building a drug-free and healthy society.
