Operation Ajay to repatriate Indians from Israel: MEA

Operation Ajay is a humanitarian evacuation mission launched by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India to repatriate Indian citizens from Israel and Palestine during the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.

The MEA set up a 24-hour control room in New Delhi, Tel Aviv and Ramallah to coordinate the evacuation efforts. The Indian government also arranged for special chartered flights and Indian Navy ships to be used to evacuate Indian citizens.

About 230 Indians living in Israel will be leaving for India on a “first come first serve” basis on the 9 PM flight on October 12.

As per the external affairs ministry, around 18,000 Indians are currently residing in Israel..

By the end of October 2023, all Indian citizens who had wished to return home had been evacuated from Israel and Palestine.
