Partnership for a Greener Future: Milton Keynes City Council Engages in Knowledge Exchange with Chandigarh Administration on Sustainable Urban Development

A delegation from Milton Keynes City Council, led by Councillor Mr. Peter Marland, arrived in Chandigarh as part of the ongoing UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) project. The delegation, consisting of esteemed members such as Mr. Paul Thomas, Director of Planning and Placemaking, Mr. Brian Mathews, Head of Transport Innovation, and Ms. Samantha Carmichael, Political Advisor to the Milton Keynes City Council, were warmly received at the Chandigarh Secretariat by Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator and his team of officers.
The delegation’s visit aims to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration between the two cities, which are actively engaged in promoting sustainable and low carbon mobility solutions. This initiative, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK Government, highlights the close partnership between Milton Keynes City Council and the Chandigarh Administration in their joint efforts towards addressing climate challenges.
During the visit, a Knowledge Exchange Session was held at the Chandigarh Secretariat, where Mr. Brian Mathews presented the commendable efforts undertaken by Milton Keynes City Council in promoting low carbon mobility. Subsequently, Shri Parduman Singh, Director of Transport, presented on the sustainable mobility practices adopted by the City of Chandigarh. The session concluded with a fruitful discussion and a question-and-answer session.
The delegation also had the opportunity to visit prominent locations in Chandigarh, including the Integrated Command & Control Centre in Sector 17 and a Public Bike Sharing Docking Station, experiencing firsthand the city’s innovative infrastructure. Additionally, the delegation engaged in an interactive session with Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, and other esteemed officers.
This collaborative effort between Milton Keynes City Council and the Chandigarh Administration demonstrates the commitment to a greener future and the exchange of best practices in sustainable urban development. The visit has further strengthened the partnership and sets the stage for future collaborations in tackling climate change.
The knowledge exchange sessions will continue on June 27, 2023, followed by a Wrap-Up meeting on June 28, 2023.
