PM Modi Inaugurates Safran Aircraft Engine MRO Facility in Hyderabad

The Voice of Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility at the GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park in Hyderabad via video conferencing. Calling it a “new flight” for India’s aviation sector, the PM said the world-class MRO centre will help establish India as a global hub for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul and create major opportunities for youth in high-tech aerospace fields.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s rapid aviation growth, now the third-largest domestic aviation market, with Indian airlines ordering over 1,500 new aircraft. He noted that until now, 85% of India’s MRO work was done abroad, causing high costs and delays, and said the government is determined to make India a major global MRO destination.

PM Modi urged Safran to explore engine and component design in India, highlighting the strength of Indian MSMEs and young talent. He underlined India’s focus on ease of doing business, major FDI reforms, and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes attracting global manufacturers.

Spread across 45,000 sqm with an investment of ₹1,300 crore, the SAESI facility will service up to 300 LEAP engines annually and employ over 1,000 skilled professionals by 2035. It is the first time a global engine OEM has set up an MRO operation in India.

The facility marks a significant step toward Aatmanirbharta in aviation, reducing foreign exchange outflows and strengthening India’s position as a global aviation hub.
