PM Modi Launches ₹3,250-Crore Rail & Road Projects in Bengal, Flags Off India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple rail and road infrastructure projects worth over ₹3,250 crore at Malda, aimed at boosting connectivity and development in West Bengal and the North-Eastern region.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister announced the introduction of India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, calling it a major step towards the modernization of Indian Railways. The sleeper train connects the land of Maa Kali (West Bengal) with Maa Kamakhya (Assam) and is expected to expand across the country in the coming years.
The Prime Minister also flagged off four new Amrit Bharat Express trains—New Jalpaiguri–Nagercoil, New Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli, Alipurduar–Bengaluru, and Alipurduar–Mumbai—strengthening North Bengal’s connectivity with South and West India.
Highlighting India’s growing self-reliance, Modi said Indian Railways is rapidly transforming with modern trains, electrification, and world-class facilities, benefiting passengers, trade, and employment. He emphasized that connecting India and reducing distances remains a key national mission.
The event was attended by West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shantanu Thakur, Sukanta Majumdar, and other dignitaries.
