Punjab Gives In Principal Approval for constructing a Shorter and Alternate Route to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport from Chandigarh

Chandigarh Administration has been deliberating to develop a shorter and alternate route to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, as the existing and single route is long and the residents have to travel 11.5 kms to reach the airport from Junction 63.
The alternate route has been prepared after the consultation of all the stakeholders i.e Punjab Government, Ministry of Defence, Airforce authorities, Chandigarh International Airport Ltd, Ministry of Railways.
The Punjab Government has also given its in principal approval for the acquiring the land falling in their jurisdiction, whereas the in principal approvals were already taken from the other stakeholders.
The new route is planned to start before 200.0 meters from the T-point intersection of Vikas Marg (coming from Sector-43 ISBT) and Purv Marg (coming from Tribune Chowk).
In the existing scenario, the residents have to travel 11.5 km to reach the airport from Junction 63. The proposed routes to the airport will reduce the distance to around 3.5 km, thereby reducing the travel time from 25 minutes to 5 minutes.
