Punjab Governor and Administrator Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria Makes Surprise Visit to Secretariat and DC Office

In a significant step towards strengthening citizen-centric governance, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria, conducted a surprise visit to the UT Secretariat and Deputy Commissioner’s Office today during the designated public grievance hours.

The visit took place during the weekly public interaction window observed every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, as per the Administrator’s earlier directive. This initiative mandates that all officers remain present in their offices during this time to meet and address public grievances. Officers have been instructed to avoid scheduling internal meetings during these hours, unless in exceptional circumstances, ensuring complete focus on public interface.

Kataria visited several departments within the Secretariat and DC Office, personally interacting with both officers and the public. He inquired about the availability of officers, the nature of complaints being received, and the promptness of redressal. Citizens present were encouraged to share their feedback directly with the Administrator, many of whom appreciated the opportunity to be heard at the highest level.

During the visit, the Administrator emphasised the importance of maintaining transparency, accessibility, and empathy in dealing with citizens.

Kataria expressed satisfaction over the presence of officers in most departments but also cautioned that any laxity in adhering to this system would not be tolerated. He stressed that continuous monitoring will be undertaken to ensure that the spirit of the initiative is upheld.

This proactive step reaffirms the commitment of the Chandigarh Administration to strengthen the bridge between citizens and governance, ensuring timely and effective delivery of public services.
