Punjabi cinema and comedy lost one of its brightest stars as legendary actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla passed away at the age of 65. The iconic entertainer breathed his last at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where he was undergoing treatment after suffering a brain stroke.
Bhalla, fondly known for his timeless comic timing and iconic characters such as Advocate Dhillon in the Carry On Jatta series and Chacha Chatar Singh from the celebrated Chhankata satires, leaves behind an unmatched legacy that straddled both entertainment and academia.
Cremation in Mohali
The cremation of the beloved actor will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 12 noon at the Balongi Cremation Ground, Mohali, where family, friends, industry colleagues, and countless admirers are expected to gather to bid their final farewell.
Dual Legacy: Comedian and Professor
Beyond cinema, Jaswinder Bhalla was also a respected academic. With a PhD in Agricultural Science, he served as a Professor at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and later as the Head of the Department of Extension Education until his retirement in 2020. His rare blend of scholarship and satire made him one of the most admired figures of Punjab.
