Round Table Conference in Chandigarh Focuses on LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity and Collaboration with Institutions

A roundtable conference aimed at fostering inclusivity and bridging the gap between the LGBTQIA+ community and institutions, including government bodies, was organised in Chandigarh. The conference, supported by the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, and facilitated by Rubaroo, a Hyderabad NGO working on social inclusion brought together a diverse range of stakeholders committed to advancing LGBTQIA+ rights and inclusivity.
In his opening remarks, Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, reiterated the UK Government’s commitment to building societies where safety, opportunity, and respect are fundamental realities for every individual, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Grewal emphasized the pivotal role of promoting gender diversity and inclusion in achieving this goal, acknowledging the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, including discrimination and exclusion in various spheres of life.
The conference provided a platform for LGBTQIA+ rights activists, community members, academicians, advocates, and civil society representatives to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration. Participants shared insights, experiences, and innovative ideas aimed at addressing the challenges hindering LGBTQIA+ inclusivity and advancing the rights of the community.
