Roundglass Hockey Academy’s Gurjot Singh and Arshdeep Singh Selected for Sultan Johor Cup

Roundglass Hockey Academy (RGHA) forwards Gurjot Singh and Arshdeep Singh were named in the 18-member Under-21 Indian national team for the upcoming Sultan Johor Cup which will take place from October 19 in Malaysia. Gurjot Singh was part of the senior team that defended their title at the Asian Champions Trophy in Moqi, China while Arshdeep has been a mainstay in the junior side for a couple of years.
The 20-year-old Gurjot hails from Nakoder in Jalandhar and has been training at RGHA since July 2021 and 19-year-old Arshdeep Singh, from Amritsar, has been with the academy since 2021. He was part of the junior team that toured Europe in May. Gurjot impressed everyone in his senior team debut and will now look to use that experience in the Sultan Johar Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments for junior players.
Speaking on the selection, Gurjot said, “I learned a lot from my stint with the senior side in the Champions Trophy. I will use that experience now to perform to my full capability in the tournament. We have a very good squad, and I have played with them for quite some time. I hope this teamwork will help us get the desired results in Malaysia.”
“This is my first major tournament for the national side. I am excited to be selected for such a prestigious tournament and I will give my 100% to the team and help us achieve the desired results”, said an ecstatic Arshdeep Singh.
India will begin their campaign against Japan on October 19, followed by a clash with Great Britain on October 20. After a day’s rest, India will face hosts Malaysia on October 22, followed by a match with Australia on October 23. They will play their last league match against New Zealand on October 25th. The top two teams after the round robin league will meet in the finals on October 26th.
