Site to be selected soon for Mazdoor Bhawan in Chandigarh – Satya Pal Jain

The Voice of Chandigarh

A subcommittee of the Chandigarh Social Welfare Committee, led by its Chairman, Satya Pal Jain, inspected two locations in Sector 44 to select a site for the proposed Mazdoor Bhawan in Chandigarh.

In addition to Mr. Jain, the committee included Mr. Devesh Modgil, Mr. Ram Lal, Mr. Mukesh Goyal, labor leaders from Labor Chowk, and several officers from the Chandigarh Administration’s Architect, Labor Planning, and Social Welfare Departments.

Chandigarh Administration officials have proposed a four-kanal plot in Sector 44-A for the construction of the Mazdoor Bhawan. The committee visited the site. Subsequently, they also visited Labor Chowk in Sector 44-C, where more space is available for the Mazdoor Bhawan. The committee held detailed discussions with labor leaders and all other stakeholders.

Mr. Jain stated that while the plot suggested by the administration in Sector 44-A is also suitable, the location at Labour Chowk in Sector 44-C is more suitable. The committee will soon submit its report first to the Social Welfare Committee and then to the Chandigarh Administrator, so that the final site selection can be made quickly.

Mr. Jain stated that the Mazdoor Bhawan being constructed in Chandigarh for laborers will likely be the first Mazdoor Bhawan to be built anywhere in the country, dedicated solely to laborers, and serving only them. It will provide breakfast, meals, and tea at affordable rates for laborers. It will include a small hall and seating arrangements for 200-300 laborers, along with parking for bicycles and scooters, which will be made available to laborers at affordable rates.

Mr. Jain stated that the Social Welfare Committee has been committed to building a Mazdoor Bhawan in the city for the past three years, as the city has buildings for all sections of society, including industrialists, but there is no Mazdoor Bhawan. He expressed hope that now this dream is on the verge of becoming a reality soon.
