SKÅL International Chennai #205 Redefines Sports Day with Purpose, Philanthropy and Passion
The Voice of Chandigarh | Travel Trade Reporter
The 2025–27 Board of SKÅL International Chennai #205 believes not in doing different things, but in doing things differently. From innovative meeting formats to refreshing event experiences, the Board continues to redefine how SKÅL Chennai comes together.
True to this vision, this year’s SKÅL Chennai Sports Day moved away from the traditional flashy beach resorts to a more sports-centric venue at FC Madras Football Academy. The event seamlessly merged high-energy fun with philanthropy by integrating the annual CSR initiative, SKÅL Cares – 2026, into a single, vibrant day.
The day began on a lively note with an Aquatic Zumba session led by Swetha, which became the highlight of the morning, drawing even the backbenchers into an energetic workout. While members participated in SKÅL Cares 2026 activities, children and families were engaged with Frisbee, Pickleball, and Badminton, keeping the atmosphere spirited throughout the day.
The lunch experience was elevated with a live musical performance by Ms. Vajiha Anwar and her team from Social Spirit. Their multilingual repertoire, vibrant energy, and youthful spirit captivated the audience, earning them a loyal fan base within SKÅL International Chennai.

Traditionally, SKÅL Cares has supported schools, orphanages, old-age homes, and children’s welfare initiatives. This year, the focus shifted towards man’s best friend – dogs.
Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, who chairs the pan-India NGO People for Animals Trust (PFA)—India’s largest non-governmental animal welfare organization—leads an extensive network of 26 hospitals, 165 units, 60 mobile units, and over 2.5 lakh members nationwide. PFA rescues and rehabilitates sick and needy animals, runs shelters and ambulance services, conducts sterilization programs, treatment camps, disaster rescue missions, education programs in schools, fights court cases, and advocates animal welfare in Parliament. The organization aims to establish an animal welfare centre in each of India’s 600 districts.
The association with PFA began as a casual conversation at the SKÅL International National Congress in Mumbai (September 2025) between SKÅL International Mumbai South President Dr. Mukesh Batra, Chennai Past President Sk. Venkat Reddy, and Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, where support was sought for the PFA Tambaram unit.
People for Animals (PFA) Tambaram has pioneered a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, transforming unused public space under the MCC Tambaram flyover into a public-private funded animal hospital and shelter—an innovative model that reduces construction costs while creating a sustainable welfare centre.
As part of SKÅL Cares 2026, 50 stay and meal vouchers were put up for auction. Thanks to the generosity of members, 17 members actively contributed, raising ₹2,67,000 through the auction. With additional contributions, the total amount collected currently stands at ₹3,00,000. The proceeds will be formally handed over to People for Animals (PFA) Tambaram at a valedictory function to be held later.
SKÅL International Chennai #205 expressed heartfelt gratitude to its members for opening their hearts and wallets for the furry friends. Appreciation was also extended to the Board members, venue host FC Madras for their fabulous support, and the ODC team for their flawless execution and freshly cooked food. Special thanks were conveyed to the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make everyone feel valued and at home.
SKÅL International Chennai #205 continues its journey with passion, commitment, and purpose—striving to be not just a merry-making club, but a community that truly cares.
