Successful e-Auction of Vehicle Registration Numbers in Chandigarh Generates Rs. 2.4 Crore

In a highly successful event conducted by the Registering & Licensing Authority of Chandigarh, an electronic auction of vehicle registration numbers garnered an impressive revenue of Rs. 2.4 crore. The auction, held from July 13 to July 15, 2024, featured coveted registration numbers from the new series “CH01-CV” as well as leftover fancy numbers from previous series.

A total of 601 registration numbers were put up for bidding, attracting enthusiastic participation from across the region. The highlight of the auction was the fervent bidding for premium numbers, with “CH01-CV-0001” fetching the highest bid of Rs. 24,30,000. Following closely was “CH01-CV-0009,” which secured the second highest bid at Rs. 10,43,000.

Officials from the Registering & Licensing Authority expressed satisfaction at the robust response to the auction, attributing the substantial revenue to competitive bidding for unique and desirable registration numbers. The proceeds from the auction are expected to contribute significantly to the authority’s operational funds, further enhancing their services to the public.

Such auctions not only generate revenue but also add to the prestige associated with personalized vehicle registration numbers, reflecting a growing trend of individuality and exclusivity among vehicle owners in Chandigarh.
