
TAAI Expresses Gratitude to Air India for Compassionate Response Following AI171 Tragedy

In the aftermath of the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 on 12th June 2025, the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has extended its heartfelt gratitude to Air India and the Tata Group for their timely and compassionate response to the catastrophe.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, TAAI President Mr. Sunil Kumar R expressed sorrow over the unfortunate loss of lives and lauded the Tata Group’s announcement of an ex-gratia payment of ₹1 crore to the families of each victim.
“While money cannot compensate for the loss of any life, this responsible and timely gesture by the Tata Group and Air India reflects the airline’s commitment to easing the immense pain and challenges these families are now facing,” the letter stated.
TAAI has also offered its full cooperation and assistance to Air India, particularly from travel agencies that may have issued travel documents to the deceased passengers. The association reiterated its solidarity and support for the bereaved families and commended the airline’s proactive humanitarian approach.

Air India Flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after take-off, leading to one of the most devastating aviation tragedies in recent history.
