TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATED WITH FERVOR AND FESTIVITY
15 received State Awards and 9 get Commendations

Department of School Education Chandigarh organised a felicitation ceremony for the recipients of State Awards and Commendations for teachers at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. The purpose of awarding the teachers is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the city and to honor those teachers, who, through their commitment have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students.
Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab and Administrator of UT graced the occasion as the chief guest. Anup Gupta, Mayor, UT, Chandigarh; Dharam Pal, Advisor to the Administrator, Ms Purva Garg, Secretary Education and senior officers of the Education department and other departments dignified the occasion with their benevolent presence.
The event started off with lamp lighting after which teachers presented a beautiful group song depicting the role of a teacher in the lives of students and nation building. The Punjabi folk dance ‘Luddi’ enthralled one and all. As Luddi is performed to celebrate victory it left a message that every teacher feels rewarded when one of them is acknowledged for their efforts.
Moving on, the final felicitation ceremony started off where 15 Principals and teachers were given State Awards and 9 were given Commendation for their extraordinary work.

Banwarilal in his address congratulated the Department for putting up a grand show. He shared his life experiences mentioning the importance of a teacher in his life. He also gave reference of Dr S. Radhakrishnan, and the story of his birthday finally giving an eventful day called Teacher’s day. Talking about APJ Abdul Kalam who led a simple life even after being the President of India. Dr. Kalam always wanted to be remembered as a ‘Teacher’. Purohit motivated the teachers to keep working for the betterment of the society. He showed his immense belief in the talent of teachers and he expressed his desire to make Chandigarh an example before the country in terms of Education.
