In a massive crackdown on cross-border narco-terror networks, Punjab Police’s State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, has seized a staggering 64.62 kg of heroin and arrested two operatives linked to an international smuggling module.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sarwan Singh alias Gujjar and Shamsher Singh alias Shera, both residents of Amritsar. Police also impounded a Maruti Swift car used in transporting the narcotics.

According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations have exposed direct links of the module with Pakistan-based smugglers and a handler operating from Portugal. The network is also connected to notorious Pak-based smuggler Moosa, previously linked to the sensational 532 kg heroin seizure at Attari ICP in 2019, one of India’s largest-ever drug recoveries.

“This operation delivers a strong blow to cross-border drug syndicates. We are actively working to dismantle the entire network by tracing both forward and backward linkages,” said the DGP.

Providing operational details, AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann revealed that actionable intelligence indicated the accused had retrieved a heroin consignment dropped via drone from across the border. Acting swiftly, police teams intercepted the duo near Mahal Bypass, Amritsar, while they were en route to deliver the consignment.

The AIG further disclosed that the accused were lured with huge monetary rewards by their handlers for executing the delivery. Authorities expect more arrests and recoveries as the investigation progresses.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam at Police Station SSOC Amritsar.

The operation marks a significant step in the Punjab government’s ongoing campaign to make the state drug-free under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
