The Voice of Chandigarh News:
A meeting of the National Human Rights Social Justice Council of India, Chandigarh, was held at Lake Club, Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Kamaljit Singh Panchhi. The primary focus was to discuss and support the “Beggar-Free Chandigarh” campaign, an initiative by the Chandigarh Administration. The campaign, running from October 21st to 28th, 2024, aims to eradicate begging in the city and promote compassionate alternatives for helping those in need.
Panchhi urged the citizens of Chandigarh to actively participate in this important campaign, which seeks not only to eliminate begging but also to combat child trafficking and child labor. He encouraged council members to contribute by raising awareness and guiding the public in this collective effort to make Chandigarh a beggar-free and more beautiful city. Members pledged their full support, including providing essentials at the designated “Neki Ki Deewar” locations, as recommended by the administration.
Panchhi and members of Council praised the Chandigarh Administration for its initiative and requested the Hon’ble Administrator to extend the campaign until December 31st, 2024, noting that the current eight-day duration (October 21st to 28th) may be insufficient to achieve the desired results.
Additionally, the council members committed to not giving money to beggars or buying items from children at traffic signals and roundabouts. This move aims to discourage begging, child labor, and trafficking. It was also decided that pamphlets with campaign guidelines would be distributed to further raise public awareness.
