The Social Welfare Committee again recommended to increase the pension of old age, widow and disabled in Chandigarh from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 2000/- per month. Meeting chaired by Satya Pal Jain

A meeting of the Social Welfare Committee of Chandigarh Administration was held at UT Guest House under the chairmanship of former MP Satya Pal Jain in which the Committee once again urged the Central Government to immediately accept the proposal to increase the monthly pension given to old age, widow and disabled people in Chandigarh from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 2000/- per month. Sh. Jain said that the governments of Punjab and Haryana have already increased this pension to about Rs. 3000/- per month. Mr. Jain said that there are about 25000 families in Chandigarh who will get the benefit of this.
The committee was told that the Chandigarh Administration has implemented its recommendation under which every poor girl will be given a shagun of Rs. 31000/- by the department on her marriage. Funds have also been made available for this and applications have also started coming. Soon the amount will start getting released for this.
The police department told the meeting that out of the 63 children, who have been missing in Chandigarh for many years, 14 have been found and efforts are being made to find the 49 children (44 girls and 5 boys) who are still missing. It was decided in the meeting that evening OPD will be started in almost all the dispensaries of Chandigarh and for this the health department will soon give its budget to the administration and after its approval this decision will be implemented.
It was also decided in the meeting that a conference of prominent citizens of the city will be held in January under the chairmanship of Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh, in which the city residents will be informed about the welfare schemes of the Government of India.
A sub-committee was formed to make more Ayushman Bharat cards for senior citizens, which includes Dr. Paramjit Singh, Mr. Devesh Modgil and Dr. Sheenu Agarwal.
In the meeting, a sub-committee was also formed under the chairmanship of Mr. Devesh Modgil to fill the vacant posts of street vendors and to solve their other problems, which includes Anamika Walia, Renu Rishi Gautam, Kanwaljit Panchhi, Tulika Mehta and Poonam Jamwal.
These committees were asked to submit their report before the next meeting.
Apart from others, Palika Arora, Devesh Modgil, Kawaljit Panchhi, Anamika Walia, Gaurav Gaur, Sheenu Aggarwal, Jagdish Kapoor, Renu Rishi Gautam, Lata Giri, Tulika Mehta, Rajendra Sharma, Bimson Ahuja, Karan Vasudev also attended the meeting.
