In a major development in the ongoing crackdown on alleged real estate frauds, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against Ninex Developers Ltd. and its Director for allegedly cheating homebuyers and investors in connection with a housing project in Gurugram, Haryana.
According to the CBI, the investigation revealed that the builder company and its Director, acting in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy, allegedly lured innocent homebuyers and investors through false assurances, misleading representations and deceptive promises. The accused are alleged to have dishonestly secured financial gains while causing substantial losses to the victims.
The agency stated that substantial evidence was gathered during the investigation, following which a charge sheet was filed before the competent court under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal breach of trust.
The case forms part of a larger investigation being carried out by the CBI into alleged frauds in the real estate sector. The agency is currently probing 50 cases registered on the directions of the Supreme Court against various builder companies and unknown officials of financial institutions across the country over allegations of cheating homebuyers and diversion of funds.
Earlier, the CBI had filed charge sheets against several real estate firms, including Rudra Buildwell Constructions Pvt. Ltd., Dream Procon Pvt. Ltd., Jaypee Infratech Ltd., AVJ Developers (India) Pvt. Ltd., CHD Developers Pvt. Ltd., Sequel Buildcon Pvt. Ltd., Logix City Developers Pvt. Ltd., Manju J Homes India Ltd. and Shubhkamna Buildtech Pvt. Ltd., along with their Directors and certain officials of banks and financial institutions.
