Air India Reaffirms Commitment to Safety Following AI171 Incident

The Voice of Chandigarh

Air India has reiterated that the safety of its passengers, crew, and aircraft remains its highest priority. Following the tragic AI171 accident in June, the airline has implemented a series of proactive safety measures, operational enhancements, and fleet inspections in close coordination with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Comprehensive Inspections
Detailed checks of Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft, as well as the fuel control switch mechanism on Boeing 737 and 787-8 fleets, have been completed under DGCA oversight, with no issues reported.

Safety Pause & Operational Upgrades
In June, Air India initiated a voluntary “Safety Pause,” temporarily reducing its flight schedule to allow additional pre-flight checks and accelerate reliability upgrades. This also improved delay and disruption management during regional airspace closures.

Global-Standard Protocols
Air India maintains multi-layered safety systems, regular crew training at its Training Academy, and real-time flight monitoring via its Integrated Operations Control Centre. Annual DGCA audits and bi-annual IATA safety audits confirm compliance with international aviation standards.

Independent Safety Assessments
Post-privatisation, the airline engaged global aviation experts Oliver Wyman/CAVOK and Boeing to conduct full safety and operational efficiency reviews.

Measured Resumption of International Services
International flights resumed in phases from August 1, with full operations targeted by October 1, 2025.

Customer-Centric Improvements
Air India continues to modernise its fleet, enhance operational processes, and improve passenger experience through its retrofit programme.

“Every journey is safeguarded through rigorous processes, advanced technology, and a deeply embedded culture of safety and care,” the airline stated.
