India–EU Ties Enter a New Era with Historic Free Trade Pact & Strategic Roadmap to 2030

India and the European Union marked a historic milestone in their bilateral relations with the conclusion of India’s largest-ever Free Trade Agreement, alongside the launch of an ambitious India–EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda Towards 2030.
Addressing a joint press statement with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Summit represents a moment “where history changes direction and a new era begins.”
The landmark FTA with the 27-member European Union is set to boost trade beyond the current €180 billion, expand market access for Indian farmers and MSMEs, strengthen global supply chains, and unlock new opportunities in manufacturing, services, and innovation.
Key outcomes of the Summit include:

Launch of a five-year holistic strategic roadmap guiding India–EU cooperation till 2030

Formalisation of a Security and Defence Partnership covering counter-terrorism, maritime security, and cybersecurity

A new Mobility Framework to open opportunities for Indian students, professionals, and skilled workers in Europe

Establishment of a Green Hydrogen Task Force and renewed cooperation on clean energy

Expansion of joint projects in digital innovation, women empowerment, disaster resilience, and sustainable development across Africa, the Indo-Pacific, and the Caribbean
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to democracy, multilateralism, a rules-based international order, and reform of global institutions, while also discussing global challenges including Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific.
Calling the partnership a “Partnership for the Global Good,” Prime Minister Modi said India and the EU will jointly work to promote stability, prosperity, and inclusive growth worldwide.
