The Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, in collaboration with NGO Parivartan, observed World Suicide Prevention Day on the GMCH campus. The event was organised around the theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” highlighting the need to replace silence and stigma with openness, empathy and understanding.

Faculty members, resident doctors and students actively participated in various awareness activities. A special “Stories of Hope” installation displayed messages shared by patients, highlighting resilience and recovery. Important information on helplines and guidelines for seeking immediate assistance was also displayed.

A signature board provided participants with an opportunity to pledge their support for suicide prevention. It was inaugurated by Director Principal Dr. Ravneet Kaur, Medical Superintendent Dr. Vishal Guglani and Head of the Department of Psychiatry Dr. Ajeet Sidana. They interacted with participants and addressed queries related to mental health awareness.
