A media preview for the Punjabi film Pit Siyapa

The Voice of Chandigarh

A media preview for the Punjabi film Pit Siyapa was held. Directed by Rupinder Chahal, the film features Sonam Bajwa, Paramvir Cheema, Karamjit Anmol, and Sukhwinder Chahal in lead roles. The “World Premiere” concept meant that the film was screened a day in advance, allowing journalists and guests to attend and see how the final product turned out. Pit Siyapa proved to be a truly beautiful film. At first glance, the title Pit Siyapa suggests that the film might be a comedy; however, alongside its humor, it also touches upon a serious subject. The film explores the anguish of the diaspora—specifically, how individuals living abroad navigate the process of performing the final rites for their elderly loved ones. While the film begins on a humorous note, at a certain point, it takes a serious turn. Beyond its symbolic nature, how does the film’s situational aspect translate into comedy? It is not a case of shoehorning in forced punchlines, delivering contrived dialogues, or simply trying to make everything fit together arbitrarily.
