Batik Air Launches First International Service from Subang with Bangkok Route
Batik Air has officially launched its new direct service between Subang and Bangkok further deepening travel ties between Malaysia and Thailand. The inaugural flight was welcomed at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang (SZB) earlier today with a simple yet meaningful ceremony to commemorate the occasion.
The launch also marks Batik Air’s first international service operated from Subang, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to developing SZB into a strategic and accessible travel hub for the Klang Valley and beyond.
In addition to the Bangkok route, Batik Air also commenced direct flights between Subang and Kuching (KCH) on the same day, introducing its second East Malaysia service from SZB. These new additions further enhance the airline’s growing presence at Subang, where it already operates flights to Penang (PEN), Kota Bharu (KBR), Kota Kinabalu (BKI) and Tawau via BKI.
Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said the airline is proud to connect more cities through Subang, providing passengers with greater convenience and flexibility, as an alternative to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“With these new routes, we are not only deepening our presence in Subang but also bringing travellers closer to the destinations they love—whether it’s exploring Bangkok’s vibrant streets or experiencing Kuching’s rich cultural charm.”
Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, stated: “We applaud Batik Air’s commitment in expanding Malaysia’s regional and domestic air connectivity. These new routes are timely as we gear up for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). Thailand remains one of our most important source markets, and enhanced accessibility will play a pivotal role in boosting visitor arrivals and supporting the growth of Malaysia’s tourism industry.”
Meanwhile, Tourism Selangor welcomes and encourages airlines to enhance flight connectivity in an effort to attract more tourists to Selangor. In conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025, Tourism Selangor hopes to see an increase in tourist arrivals from Thailand, who will have the opportunity to explore the many attractions in Selangor, particularly around the Subang Airport area. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly towards achieving the target of 8 million tourist arrivals during Visit Selangor Year 2025.
Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport is located just 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur city centre, offering a time-saving alternative for travellers who prefer to avoid the longer commute to KLIA. Its strategic location near key districts such as Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam makes it a preferred choice for both business and leisure passengers, especially those in the Klang Valley.
With the launch of Bangkok and Kuching flights, Batik Air now operates five direct routes from Subang, giving travellers more options when planning their domestic and regional journeys. The addition of these services reflects the airline’s vision to offer seamless connectivity, enhanced accessibility, and a more convenient travel experience across Malaysia and beyond.
