British High Commission Raises Awareness Among Youth and Rural Communities About Visa Fraud

With the aim of spreading awareness about the growing cases of visa fraud and promoting safe and legal travel to the United Kingdom, the British High Commission, Chandigarh, organised a community outreach programme in Banga under its ‘Beware of Visa Fraud’ campaign.
The programme aimed to educate young people, students and rural communities about the risks associated with visa fraud and irregular migration. Members of the British High Commission team, Phil Brown, Jessica Lightower, Amandeep Grewal and Rajinder S. Nagarkoti, participated in the programme and addressed the gathering.
The British High Commission team explained how fraudsters cheat people in the name of sending them abroad by making false promises, using forged documents and providing misleading information. The team also highlighted the serious risks associated with irregular migration and its possible consequences, urging people to follow only verified and legal visa procedures.
During the programme, youth and rural residents were advised to rely only on official and trusted sources for information related to travel and migration. They were also urged to independently verify claims made by agents or intermediaries before relying on them.
The team also shared information about a special WhatsApp chatbot launched by the British High Commission. The service provides verified guidance on travelling to the United Kingdom and the visa process in English, Hindi and Punjabi. The chatbot also helps people identify common methods of visa fraud and obtain information about legal travel routes.

Under the ‘Beware of Visa Fraud’ campaign, the British High Commission continues to work with educational institutions, community organisations and local stakeholders across North India to protect people from visa fraud, promote safe travel and strengthen awareness about legal migration procedures.
