British High Commission raises awareness on visa fraud among youth and villagers in Amritsar
Community outreach session organised at Government Industrial Training Institute, Lopoke under the ‘Visa Fraud Se Bache’ campaign

As part of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness about visa fraud and promote safe and legal travel to the United Kingdom, the British High Commission organised a community outreach session at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Lopoke, Amritsar, under its ‘Visa Fraud Se Bache’ campaign.
The programme aimed to educate youngsters, students and members of the local community about the risks associated with visa fraud and irregular migration.
British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh, Alba Smeriglio, attended the event as the chief guest.
Addressing the students during the session, Rajinder S Nagarkoti, Senior Advisor at the British High Commission, explained how fraudsters exploit people through fake promises, forged documents and misleading information related to overseas travel. He highlighted the serious consequences of illegal migration and stressed the importance of following only genuine and authorized visa processes.
Participants were advised to rely only on official and trusted sources for information related to travel and migration.
Principal Jatinder Hans and his team welcomed the British High Commission delegation and thanked them for conducting the awareness session.
The team also shared information about the British High Commission’s dedicated WhatsApp chatbot, which provides verified guidance related to UK travel in English, Hindi and Punjabi. The chatbot helps people identify fraudulent practices and understand legal migration pathways.

Through the ‘Visa Fraud Se Bache’ campaign, the British High Commission continues to work closely with educational institutions, community organisations and local stakeholders across North India to protect people from fraud, promote safe mobility and strengthen awareness about legal migration systems.
