The Chandigarh Business Council (CBC) participated in a major Traders’ Meet organized by the Chandigarh Chapter of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) at Hotel First Inn, Sector 43, Chandigarh. The event witnessed the participation of leading traders, business leaders, and representatives of various trade associations from Chandigarh and adjoining areas.

The conference was addressed by Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament (Chandni Chowk, Delhi), and Secretary General of CAIT, who attended as the guest of honour. He interacted extensively with members of the trading community and discussed a wide range of issues affecting traders and entrepreneurs.

The Chandigarh Business Council (CBC) welcomed Praveen Khandelwal and felicitated him as a mark of respect and appreciation.

Representing the Chandigarh Business Council were Ajay Gupta, President; Jagdish Arora, Chairman; Neeraj Bajaj, Chief Patron; Avi Bhasin, Vice-President; and Sanjay Pahwa, General Secretary, who participated in the deliberations and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting long-pending concerns of Chandigarh’s business community.

The memorandum focused on several key issues, including the introduction of a One-Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme for pending VAT cases, simplification of GST procedures, rationalization of penalties, ease-of-doing-business reforms, and long-awaited changes in building by-laws affecting commercial properties in Chandigarh.

A major demand highlighted by CBC was permission to convert SCFs and SCOs in the inner markets of Chandigarh into box-type structures, a long-pending issue affecting property owners and traders across Sectors 1 to 31. The delegation also sought support for leasehold-to-freehold conversion policies, industrial reforms, and greater flexibility in commercial property usage.

Responding positively to the issues raised, the Member of Parliament assured traders that he would take up the matter of the proposed OTS Scheme for Chandigarh VAT cases with the Union Home Ministry and Finance Ministry. He further stated that other issues raised in the memorandum, including commercial property-related reforms, would be discussed with the Chandigarh Administration and relevant authorities.
