The Voice of Chandigarh
Acting on the directions of Excise and Taxation Commissioner Nishant Yadav, the Excise Department of Chandigarh has intensified enforcement measures to ensure strict compliance with the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, related rules, and the Excise Policy 2026-27.
In a major action, the department found that M/s Bajaj Spirits Pvt. Ltd., located in Sector 9’s Internal Market, was allegedly serving liquor in an unauthorized manner by mixing “Smirnoff Minty Jamun Vodka” with ice golas (chuski) and selling it outside the licensed premises. Following a show-cause notice issued by Collector (Excise) Pradhuman Singh, a penalty of ₹7 lakh was imposed on the licensee after due consideration of the case.
In a separate case, the bar licence of M/s Kaindal Hospitality, SCO 11, Sector 7, Chandigarh, was cancelled for violating provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, and the rules framed under it.
The Excise Department reiterated its commitment to maintaining a transparent and well-regulated excise administration in Chandigarh, warning that any unauthorized sale, service, storage, transportation, or misuse of liquor will invite strict legal action.
