Chandigarh Police Strengthen Security and Traffic Measures for Safe New Year Celebrations

In preparation for the New Year celebrations, Chandigarh Police have put in place extensive security, law and order, and traffic management measures across key venues in the city to ensure public safety and smooth festivities. The main celebration spots identified for the occasion include:

  • Plaza Sector-17
  • Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase I
  • Aroma Sector-22
  • Hotels on Madhya Marg (Sectors 7, 8, 9, 26)
  • Hotels in Sectors 35, 43, and 22
  • Hotels in Industrial Area Phase I and II

To ensure a secure environment, the Chandigarh Police have deployed a robust force consisting of:

  • 13 Gazetted Officers (GOs)
  • 16 Station House Officers (SHOs)
  • 19 Inspectors
  • 1,450 Non-Gazetted Officers (NGOs) and Other Ranks (ORs)

Additionally, 44 internal nakas and 18 outer border nakas will be stationed across the city to monitor movement and prevent any untoward incidents.

Emergency response teams have been mobilized, including 6 ambulances, 5 fire tenders, 3 hydraulic ladders, 6 Aska lights, and 3 Quick Response Teams (QRTs). To ensure the safety of the public, there will also be intensified patrolling by PCR vehicles and Cheetah squads, especially around the key celebration venues.

Anti-Sabotage Measures in Place

Special anti-sabotage checks are being carried out at all major celebration sites to ensure there are no explosive or sabotage threats, prioritizing the safety of attendees. Police are also focusing on maintaining strict law and order during the event, with all supervisory officers instructed to take immediate legal action against any incidents of hooliganism.

Traffic Management and Restricted Zones

Traffic arrangements will be in place to manage congestion and ensure smooth movement around the celebration locations. Notably, the internal roads of Sectors 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 will be designated as restricted vehicle zones, allowing only residents to enter. Special traffic diversions will be enforced to ensure ease of movement during peak hours.

Special Assistance for Women

A Lady Squad, under the leadership of L/Insp. Paramjit Kaur, has been formed to assist women during the celebrations. In addition, 8 PCR vehicles with female staff will be stationed at various locations throughout the city, ready to offer pick-up and drop services for women in case of any distress.

With these comprehensive arrangements, the Chandigarh Police are ensuring that New Year’s Eve festivities will take place safely and without incident, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations with peace of mind.

The public is urged to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and follow traffic advisories for a smooth and enjoyable New Year celebration.
