Chandigarh Traffic Police Observing 35th National Road Safety Month and Conducts Awareness Session for PU and PEC Students

Chandigarh Traffic Police is observing the 35th National Road Safety Month, 2024 from 15th January to 14th February, 2024. On this occasion, Today the Road Safety Awareness Cell of Chandigarh Traffic Police in collaboration with Ms. Sanjata Vatts, District Youth Officer from Nehru Yuva Kendra Chandigarh, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India conducted a road safety awareness session at Auditorium PEC Sector 12, Chandigarh. A total of 110 NCC cadets of PU & Students of PEC and one professor of PEC attended this session. Apart from this, A two-wheeler helmet Rally was also flagged off by Dr. Baldev Setia, Director of PEC Sector 12 Chd from PEC. The bike rally after passing Sector 2/3/10/11, GH-16 Chowk, and PGI Chowk finished at PEC.
During the session, awareness about the provisions of Rule 3, Rule 5(5), (14) & Rule 22 of the Motor Vehicle Driving Regulation 2017, Motor Vehicle ( Amendment ) Act 2019 and CMVR 1989, and other traffic rules and regulations was imparted to the participants for their safety and safety of other road users.
Furthermore, during this program, they have been made aware of various road safety issues along with the Impact and Importance of various important issues for their safety as well as for the safety of other road users which is as under:-
- Impact of Mobile phone usage, usage with ear plug upon pedestrians, cyclists, and Motor Vehicles Drivers
- Importance of wearing proper safety headgear (helmet) of BIS Standard, ISI Mark & Helmet for women for their safety and affixing of reflective tapes on helmets for clear visibility during night and fog to other road users.
- Importance of wearing a seat belt for both (front and back) seats.
- Importance of Road Signages & Road Markings and Traffic light signals. ☆ Impact of Drunk driving.
- Importance and Impact of Lane driving and how to change lanes.
- Importance of rearview mirror and mirror check after indicator and before turning Left/right or changing lanes.
- Unnecessary honking and its effect.
- Importance of pedestrian Zebra crossing.
- use of cycle track while going on cycle, rehri, rickshaw
- They were also made aware of the law covering GOOD SMARTARIAN also.
- Give way To Emergency Vehicles i.e. Ambulance, Fire-Brigade & Police (PCR) Vehicles.
