Chandigarh’s Fancy Number Craze Hits New High: ‘CH01-DE-0003’ Sold for ₹37.63 Lakh, UT Earns Over ₹4.13 Crore in Just 3 Days

The craze for premium vehicle registration numbers in Chandigarh has once again translated into a major revenue windfall for the Administration. The office of the Registering & Licensing Authority (RLA), UT Chandigarh, generated a whopping ₹4,13,71,000 through the e-auction of fancy and choice vehicle registration numbers of the new series “CH01-DE” and leftover special numbers from previous series.

The e-auction was conducted from May 30 to June 1, 2026, during which 683 registration numbers were successfully auctioned.

The star attraction of the auction was the coveted registration number “CH01-DE-0003”, which emerged as the highest-selling number, fetching an impressive ₹37.63 lakh. Close behind was “CH01-DE-0001”, which attracted a bid of ₹23.55 lakh, making it the second most expensive number in the auction.

Officials said the overwhelming response to the auction reflects the growing demand for unique and prestigious vehicle registration numbers among automobile owners in the city. The auction covered numbers ranging from 0001 to 9999 in the newly launched CH01-DE series, along with unsold fancy and special numbers from previous series.

The successful auction has added significantly to the UT Administration’s revenue kitty, underscoring Chandigarh’s continuing fascination with exclusive vehicle numbers and the willingness of buyers to pay premium prices for them.
