CRAWFED and Electoral Authorities Unite: Catalyzing Voter Participation in Chandigarh’s General Elections 2024

In a concerted effort to boost democratic participation in General Elections 2024 and ensure robust electoral engagement, a meeting chaired by Dr. Vijay N. Zade, Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, was at U.T. Guest House, Sector 6, Chandigarh with representatives of various RWAs of Chandigarh Residence Association Welfare Federation (CRAWFED) under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. This collaboration with RWAs aimed to foster a culture of informed voter, empowering residents with knowledge about the electoral process, and significance of voting, and the role of each individual as an aware voter.
CEO U.T. Chandigarh requested the members of the RWAs to motivate their society’s residents to verify their votes through the Voter Helpline App or the ECI’s Voter Portal before May 4, 2024. If any resident is still not enrolled in the electoral roll, he or she may fill out Form 6 online through the Voter Helpline App, ECI’s Voter Portal, or simply hand over their form to their Booth Level Officer at the concerned AERO office before 4th May 2024 as it is the last date for submission of Form 6 for addition of new votes.
Zade also informed the members that officers have been ordered to visit their RWAs to attend voter awareness programs in order to motivate all the residents to verify their names on the electoral roll. Booth Level Officer will get connected with the President of RWAs during this campaign, and he or she will ensure that all members of the society verify their votes in the electoral roll and come out to vote on 1st June 2024. Zade also requested the RWAs to provide their valuable suggestions in order to ensure the maximum participation of the general public in the upcoming General Elections in 2024.
Vinay Pratap Singh, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh, informed the RWAs that a list of BLOs will be shared with the RWAs so that they may connect with their area’s BLOs in order to get all the electoral services. Also, any voter may call the toll-free helpline number 1950 for any kind of information and services related to the electoral process.
In the meeting, the members of the RWA assured that they will motivate all the residents in their societies to cast votes on polling day and will also ensure to provide facilities that mobilise maximum voting during polling day. Various suggestions were received from RWAs to improve voter turn out at their polling stations. Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the suggestions and assured them that CEO office would incorporate them in their plan for voter awareness.
