Department of Forest and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration celebrated the 1st anniversary of Chandigarh Bird Park

The Department of Forest and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration celebrated the 1st anniversary of Chandigarh Bird Park at Bird Park behind Sukhna lake. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh- chief Guest of the function announced one day free entry for all visitors to Chandigarh Bird Park on 16.11.2022. He stated that this will facilitate more people to visit the Park and appreciate the beauty of nature and in turn can contribute in conservation of the avi-fauna.

On this occasion, Dharam Pal, IAS inaugurated newly established pre-fabricated Ticket Counter at the entry gate alongwith Mrs.Anita Dharam Pal and Officers of the Administration. He also planted saplings and distributed the prizes to school children participating in Drawing/ Poster Competition on the Theme – ‘My Chandigarh – My Bird Park’.

A detailed Management Guide for day-to-day management of the Bird Park and Coffee Table Book highlighting the different phases of development of the Park was released by Dharam Pal. He also released 15 new born Budgerigar the Budgerigar  Aviary.

Speaking on the occasion, Dharam Pal stated that the Park has become a must visit destination for the nature lovers and children both residents as well as visitors visiting Chandigarh.  

Nitin Kumar Yadav, Secretary Forests, UT Chandigarh informed that the Park has made a very good beginning and we must make all efforts to make it sustainable in future as well.

Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh informed that more than 4.5 lakhs visitors have visited the Park during last one year which speaks volume of the popularity of the Park across all stakeholders. He stressed that people of Chandigarh have always appreciated the authenticity and beauty of the nature. The establishment of the Chandigarh Bird Park close to Sukhna Lake will go a long way in the history of Chandigarh, he said.

Chandigarh Bird Park developed over an area 6.5 acre was inaugurated by Mrs. Savita Kovind, the then Hon’ble First Lady of India on 16th Nov, 2021. The Bird Park has four uniquely designed Aviaries simulating the natural habitat of exotic birds. This includes two large Aviaries – Aquatic & Terrestrial and two Mini Aviaries for Africken Love Birds and Budgerigars. The largen Walk through Aviaries have a flying height of 58 feet.  Large number of visitors including children and nature enthusiasts visit this park regularly.
