Inter-State Drug Coordination Meeting Held in Chandigarh

Inter-State Drug Coordination meeting was organized at Hotel Mountview, Chandigarh which was attended by DGP Haryana, DGP Uttarakhand, DGP Chandigarh, ADGP Punjab, ADGP Haryana, Special CP Crime Delhi Police, IG Himachal Pradesh and other senior officers from Jammu Kashmir Police, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh Police and the Chief Drug Controller of Chandigarh.

Discussions were held on the drug menace in the region and the various strategies to control it. During the meeting, deliberations onsource of Drugs and psychotropic substances, the routes etc were held and strategies to combat it were discussed. In the discussions held it was decided that specific Working Groups will be formulated to work on specific areas of drug menace, so that time bound and decisive actions can be taken as a result of this meeting.

The importance of information sharing by the cutting edge functionaries for coordination purpose was also discussed in the meeting. This coordination would result in seamless coordination between the operating units of various states, which would results in synergised and effective police action against drug peddlers and suppliers based out of multiple states. In order to improve the effectiveness of this mechanism, it was decided to invite Uttar Pradesh Police and Rajasthan Police to the future such meetings.

Discussions on the best practices of participating states were also held and it was decided that mechanism to adopt each other’s best practices would be formed so as to increase police to police learning’s. The coordination meeting was followed by a performance of children under the URJA- Ek Nayi Kiran scheme of Chandigarh Police wherein the children showcased various aspects of drug demand reduction activities being carried out by Chandigarh police along with its partners in the project.

The meeting ended with are solve to formalize this coordination mechanism, and hold such Apex Police meetings regularly and in an effective manner.
