Meeting of Standing Committee of Administrator’s Advisory Council (On Transport) held
Meeting of Standing Committee of Administrator’s Advisory Council (On Transport) was held under the Chairpersonship of Kirron Kher, M.P., Chandigarh at UT Guest House.
It has been discussed that the STA office totally discarded the practice of registering CNG/LPG Autos and only E-Rickshaw / E-Auto is being registered and promoted in the city. The Automated Testing Vehicles Centre (ATVS) are to be created in Chandigarh where all the passing process and vehicle fitness will be carried out regarding road worthiness of vehicles.
Congestion Tax may also be imposed of outside vehicle (which are not registered in the city) to decongest the traffic in the city as well as for promoting the use of public transport in the city.
Further it has been discussed that there are 87 Paid Parking Lots in the city. The RFP has been floated for improving the Parking Management of the existing paid parking. The charges will be calculated according to the duration of the vehicle remained parked in the parking area.
The President, Chandigarh Transport Association suggested that a Paid Parking Yard may be provided at Hallo Majra on the open space available on the road (from Poultry Form Chowk to Ramdarbar) for the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles where earlier car bazaar was shifted on trial basis, as the entry in the city of Heavy Commercial Vehicles is restricted from 6am to 11 PM. In addition to this the Paid Parking area may also be allocated in respect of ibid commercial vehicles till the restriction timing in the city.
Further it has been discussed that the M/s RITES Ltd. to submit their study report of Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Chandigarh Urban Complex in the first week of June, 2022. Thereafter the planning of Mass Rapid Transit System for Tri-City Chandigarh may be discussed accordingly.
Regarding public friendly transport system, the first lot of 40 electric buses was made operational from 13.11.2021 and the agreement has been signed with M/s Volvo Eicher for second lot of 40 E-buses. The buses are likely tobe delivered by July, 2022.
