Nationwide Chemist Strike on May 20: Chandigarh Keeps Essential Medicine Shops Open

The Chandigarh Administration’s Health Department has announced that chemist shops across the Union Territory will remain closed on May 20, 2026, in support of the “One Day Nationwide Bandh” called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists against a notification issued by the Government of India.
However, to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential and life-saving medicines, the administration has released a list of selected chemist shops that will continue operations throughout the bandh.
Most of the designated medical stores are located within major healthcare institutions including PGIMER, GMCH-32, GMSH-16, Civil Hospitals, and several private hospitals across Chandigarh.

Among the key pharmacies remaining open are:

The Health Department stated that these arrangements have been made to avoid inconvenience to patients and ensure the continuous supply of medicines during the bandh period.
The administration further assured residents that all listed chemist shops will remain operational on May 20 as confirmed by the Chandigarh Chemists Association.
