PUNJAB CHIEF MINISTER CONTRIBUTES ONE CRORE FOR THE WELFARE OF THE LEGAL FRATERNITY
Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana Provides Financial Assistance

The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana held a function for providing Financial Assistance to the dependents of the deceased Advocates. Hon’ble Chief Minister Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh was the Chief Guest of function and worthy Advocate General Punjab Mr. Atul Nanda was the Guest of Honour. This function was also attended by Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, Cabinet Minister Punjab.
Mr. Minderjeet Yadav, Chairman of the Bar Council told the media that Capt. Amarinder Singh has always made a great contribution to the welfare of the legal fraternity. Even the Law Bhawan was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, in the year 2004, in the past also a very handsome grant was given to the Bar Council by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.
Apart from statutory, enrolment and disciplinary functions, the Bar Council has always worked for the welfare and betterment of the legal fraternity. Before the enactment and implementation of “The Advocates Welfare Fund Act” the Bar Council has so far from its own resources has provided financial assistance to the families of 574 deceased Advocates. But with the increasing inflation every year, the implementation of the welfare fund Acts became necessary.
Now due to the occurrence of Covid19 the whole world is facing the economic meltdown and the legal fraternity is worst affected. With the assistance of welfare fund Act the State of Haryana has already disbursed more than Rs. 70 lakhs and the Bar Council has already disbursed more than Rs. 2.56 Crores as Covid-19 financial assistance to the affected members of the legal fraternity, in total the amount comes to Rs. Three Crore 28 Lakh.
The Chairman of the Bar Council on his behalf as well as on behalf of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Punjab for giving one Crore Rupees to the Bar Council and families of 42 deceased Advocates were given financial assistance. The Chairman of the Bar Council has also said that the State Bar Council always stood with the legal fraternity especially during this tough time of pandemic Covid-19. He further informed the families of the bereaved Advocates that Bar Council has always treated them like their family and stood in solidarity with you all.
The Chairman also appreciated the positive role played by the worthy Advocate General Punjab Mr. Atul Nanda and Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, Cabinet Minister Punjab to help the above families of the deceased Advocates.
