He stated that CBM has been consistently raising concerns regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in the city before the administration and the police. Specific information regarding threats being received by certain shopkeepers in Sector-11 Market had also been shared with the concerned authorities, but unfortunately, no effective preventive action was taken. This incident highlights the urgent need to further strengthen security arrangements in all markets across the city.
He added that the brazen daylight shooting and killing of a trader’s employee is an extremely unfortunate and alarming incident. CBM has repeatedly drawn the administration’s attention to the worsening law and order situation in Chandigarh. He urged the administration and the police to ensure the immediate arrest of the culprits and to provide adequate security arrangements in all city markets so that the confidence of the trading community can be restored.
He further informed that, in view of the seriousness of the incident, an emergency meeting of the senior office-bearers of the Mandal will be held on June 14 to discuss the situation and decide the future course of action and protest programme.
Diwakar Sahoonja, Vice Chairman and Official Spokesperson of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, said that the administration’s failure to ensure the safety of innocent citizens and traders is deeply concerning, especially when the trading community has been facing threats, extortion attempts, and violent incidents for a considerable period.
Charanjiv Singh, Chairman of the organization, appealed to all traders of the city to remain united and strongly condemn this barbaric crime. He said that the entire trading community must raise its collective voice to ensure a safe and fear-free business environment.
CBM expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and urges the administration to ensure the swift arrest of the accused, deliver justice to the victim’s family, and take effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
