Unity in Diversity: Chandigarh celebrates Meri Maati Mera Desh’

The Voice of Chandigarh – Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Banwarilal Purohit, graced a momentous occasion as the Chief Guest at the State Level ceremony of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign. Commenced on 9th August, these celebrations, part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, culminated today in grandeur at the iconic Tiranga Park in Sector-17, Chandigarh.

Amidst the gentle embrace of raindrops, the Administrator inaugurated the festivities by unfurling the National Flag and unveiling the Shilphalakam at Tiranga Park. Following this auspicious moment, Dharampal, emphasized that ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ envisions a harmonious celebration of India’s soil and valor. The Adviser took the opportunity to express gratitude to all the Veers, including freedom fighters, defense personnel, Central Armed Police Forces, and State Police, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

A symbolic gesture of unity followed, with everyone in the gathering holding a fistful of soil (‘Mitti’) in their hands. The Administrator, Chandigarh, administered the Panch Pran pledge to the attendees, urging them to forever honor the brave hearts (veer) who paved the way for our freedom and progress, and to commit to the cause of nation-building.

Purohit paid homage to the freedom fighters and their families by presenting shawls as tokens of respect. This touching moment was accompanied by enchanting cultural performances by school children, infused with patriotic fervor. The Administrator underscored the message that our National Anthem embodies the spirit of ‘Unity in Diversity,’ a central aspect of India’s rich cultural heritage.

Extending his accolades to the young talents, the Administrator expressed profound gratitude to the courageous Veers of our nation who have made the supreme sacrifice for our beloved country.

The event saw the presence of distinguished personalities, including Anup Gupta, Mayor of UT Chandigarh, Dr. Dharam Pal, Advisor to the Administrator, Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, Finance Secretary, Nitin Yadav, Home Secretary, Praveer Ranjan, DGP, alongside other senior officials of the Administration and esteemed members of the Indian Armed Forces.
