Big Judicial Move: Justice Sheel Nagu and Four Others Elevated to Supreme Court

In a significant move aimed at strengthening the judiciary, the President of India has appointed five distinguished legal professionals as Judges of the Supreme Court of India. The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 124(2) of the Constitution of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
The newly appointed judges are:
- Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
- Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
- Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
- Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
- Ms. Venkita Subramani Mohana, Senior Advocate.
The appointments reflect a blend of judicial experience and legal expertise from across the country. The inclusion of a senior advocate alongside serving Chief Justices is being viewed as a step towards broadening representation and strengthening the apex court’s capacity to handle its growing workload.
Conveying the announcement, the President extended best wishes to the newly appointed judges and expressed confidence that they would uphold the Constitution, the rule of law, and the highest standards of judicial integrity while serving in the nation’s highest court.
With these appointments, the Supreme Court is expected to further enhance its ability to deliver timely and effective justice on matters of national importance.
