District Skill Committee Reviews Skill Development Initiatives in Chandigarh

The 9th meeting of the District Skill Committee (DSC) was held under the chairmanship of Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh, to review the progress of skill development initiatives and strengthen coordination among stakeholder departments.
During the meeting Dr. Palika Arora, PCS, Mission Director, Chandigarh Skill Development Mission (CSDM), briefed the Committee on various skill development programmes being implemented in the Union Territory including PMKVY 4.0, PM Vishwakarma, the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and the IndiaSkills Competition 2025.
The Committee appreciated Chandigarh’s outstanding performance at the IndiaSkills National Competition where the Union Territory secured one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal and three Medallions of Excellence.
The Committee also discussed future initiatives including skill training in Green Hydrogen, Caregiving and other emerging sectors, establishment of a Skill India International Centre and strengthening industry partnerships to meet evolving workforce requirements. Representatives of various departments presented the progress of their skill development initiatives and shared their targets for 2026-27.
Addressing the meeting the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for greater inter-departmental convergence, stronger industry collaboration and demand-driven skill development to enhance employability, promote entrepreneurship and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth of Chandigarh.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to further strengthen the skill development ecosystem and build a future-ready workforce in the Union Territory.
