Police Officials Hold Meeting with Market Association in Sector 19-C; Traders Demand Stronger Security Measures

The Voice of Chandigarh News

Chandigarh Police officials visited the Sector 19-C Market, one of the city’s oldest and busiest commercial hubs, and held a meeting with local traders to discuss security concerns. Representing the police department were DSP P. Abhinandan, Station House Officer (SHO) Sarita Roy, Anil Dangi, and Pradeep Kumar. On behalf of the Market Committee, Sector 19-C, President Vinod Talwar, Vice President Vivek Jolly, Secretary-cum-Cashier Chandan Bhatia, along with Sonu Thapar, Sanjay Pahwa, Anshul Arora, Subhash Bansal, and Vicky Manchanda, were present.

The traders urged the police to intervene immediately regarding growing security concerns in the market area and highlighted several law-and-order and safety-related issues.

According to the Market Committee, the market attracts a large number of customers every day. However, recent security-related issues have created a sense of insecurity among shopkeepers, employees, and customers.

The traders requested regular monitoring of the area behind the market and around the public toilets. They stated that some individuals are allegedly involved in activities such as alcohol consumption and gambling in these areas, adversely affecting the market environment and causing inconvenience to customers and families visiting the market.

The Market Committee also raised the issue of illegal street vendors. They alleged that several unauthorized vendors occupy market spaces throughout the day and vacate the area only when they receive information about enforcement drives by the Municipal Corporation.

To enhance security and surveillance, traders demanded the installation of high-tech CCTV bullet cameras directly linked to the Police Control Room, an increase in regular police patrolling, and the deployment of additional police personnel and PCR vehicles during peak business hours.

Market Committee office-bearers stated that these issues have been raised with the concerned departments on several occasions in the past, but no concrete action has been taken so far. They expressed hope that the police administration would take the necessary steps to strengthen security and maintain law and order in the market area.

Market Committee President Vinod Talwar said that the implementation of these measures would help ensure a safer and more secure environment for shopkeepers, customers, and visitors alike.
