Satya Pal Jain, Ex-MP and Additional Solicitor General of India unveiled a book titled “Child Rights and Laws: International & National Perspective” authored by Dr. Shalini Sharma.

Satya Pal Jain said, that he is delighted to release the book and emphasized that protection of child rights is not only a matter of their human rights but also an investment towards building a robust nation. He asserted that India is signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and accordingly has a strong legal framework to protect children.

Praising the author, Jain said that the author has holistically covered a wide array of statutory provisions like the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the POCSO Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act as well as the Commission on Protection of Child Rights Act. The book also provides an introduction to key aspects of International Conventions, Declarations and Protocols, including the Geneva Declaration on Rights of the Child, the UDHR, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The book is a comprehensive compendium on child rights and laws from a child development perspective. Using relevant case studies, this book takes a thematic approach to children’s rights and considers underlying topics such as the right to education, the right to freedom from abuse and/or sexual and commercial exploitation, including contemporary challenges from forced child marriage and trafficking, the role of the State in relation to children in need of care and protection, children’s rights in the criminal justice system and other related legislations.

Given the user friendly features the book will be of great interest to students, lawyers, judicial officers, police officials and other stake holders in the areas of Child Development and Protection, Human Rights Law, Family Law and Child related studies. The book is published by Whitemann’s Publications, New Delhi.
