Visioning Workshop Concludes on Future Ready Chandigarh 2030 & Beyond

The two days Visioning workshop on “Future Ready Chandigarh 2030 & Beyond”,  concluded with the thought-provoking discussion of two thematic groups on Health, Nutrition and Well Being and Social Protection & Safety for all.

The workshop has been organized by Chandigarh Administration and is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the objective of setting out the future roadmap for Chandigarh.

The thematic group on Health, Nutrition and Well Beings initiated the discussion with an overview of Chandigarh’s Health Infrastructure and Services, Diseases Preventive Measures, Health Performance Indicators, Ongoing Programmes with Status, Covid-19 / Pandemic Preparedness, Issues & Challenges and Future Plans by Yashpal Garg, Secretary Health. Subjects like the future of the Health Sector, the strengthening implementation of the Digital Health Eco-system and preparedness for future health stresses and shocks were touched by the group.

Mandip Brar, Deputy Commissioner and Nitika Pawar, Secretary of Social Welfare showcased the initiatives taken by Chandigarh Administration to achieve goals like zero poverty, zero hunger, gender equality, reducing inequalities etc. Further, the case studies and best practices related to Social equity, welfare and protection, inclusivity in large cities, social protection and safety nets for informal workers were also shared by the panellists.

Banwari Lal Purohit congratulated the experts for highlighting the importance of the involvement of the common people in defining the vision for the city. “The quality of amenities should not be distinguished between Sectors. Aspirations of the people must be kept in mind. Social cohesion is very important”, added the Administrator.

Focusing on future planning of the City Beautiful, the Administrator stressed that with the growing population, it is imperative to enhance the infrastructure and meet the demands of the residents. He also shared that the visioning exercise should be at the Tricity level of Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and the peripheral areas. Ensuring the commitment of the Chandigarh Administration in continuing this visioning exercise in the coming future, the Administrator officially concluded the visioning workshop and congratulated all the stakeholders for their valuable contribution.

Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator applauded the experts and visionaries for their active participation in the workshop. He ensured that the report submitted by the experts will be thoroughly examined by the officials of the Administration so that proper action is taken on making this vision a reality.
